State Police Warn That ‘Swatting’ Threats are Against the Law!
It goes without saying that there are some 'disturbed' humans wandering among us! Just for sh**ts and giggles, some of these disturbed individuals get their kicks by making false threats which is called "swatting" according to the News-Times.Trooper First Class Kelly Grant said, "falsely reporting incidents is not a prank; they are criminal acts." A 74 year old Wolcott man was arrested after he allegedly told DMV staff members he was "going to shoot the place up."
A 23 year old Roxbury man was arrested for also threatening to "shoot up the DMV."
A 36 year old woman in Hebron was arrested for threatening to "blow up and shoot up the school."
On October 23, 17 Fairfield schools were placed in lockdown when a series of threats were called in, which included the use of pipe bombs, and a man with an assault rifle heading towards Holland Hill Elementary School. 10,000 students were affected along with the State Police and a dozen different local police departments.
The practice is so widespread that the FBI has issued a statement saying, "Swatting is extremely dangerous and places first responders and citizens in harm's way!" If you hear someone make a serious threat involving violence towards anyone or anything, call 9-1-1 immediately!
