Popular Restaurant Chain Considers Closing 70+ Locations, Will Connecticut Be Affected?
It is a rough time out here for these businesses. Will stuff like this continue to be reported daily? I sure hope not. I'm ready to go back to the time where businesses were booming and everyone wanted to continue opening new places.
It has been reported that a popular restaurant chain is looking to close 70 locations over the next coming years. Red Robin has announced that they are considering closing underperforming locations to help payoff some of their debt. In their earnings release, they mentioned that they had a net loss of $77.5 million in 2024 compared to a net loss of $21.2 million in 2023.

In a report from USA Today, they reported that Red Robin's president and CEO said that most of their underperforming locations are expected to close within the next 5 years and within this year, the company plans to close 10 to 15 locations. What does this mean for Connecticut?
I took a look to see how many Red Robin locations were left in Connecticut. We currently have 3 locations - Enfield, Manchester and West Hartford. Are any of these locations considered underperforming? I guess only time will tell.
I hope we don't see this franchise go down under as well. I know it's not as popular as it once was, but watching all of these chains shrink to nothing is pretty mind-blowing. The only way this could spin to a positive is if a local restaurant was to then open instead. Other than that, I hate watching all of these businesses close. It's a ripple effect within the community and additionally leaves a lot of hard-working people out of jobs.
