Police Arrest Two Following Early Morning Crash/K9 Track in Bridgewater
It's not often that I report on crime happening in Bridgewater, Connecticut, but an early morning crash today along Rt. 67 in town has resulted in the arrest of a man and woman from the greater Danbury area.
According to the Connecticut State Police - Troop A Southbury and cspnews.org, Troopers responded to the area of Rt. 67 in the vicinity of Kruskyville Road in Bridgewater at 5:25AM this morning (12-12-24) for reports of a motor vehicle accident. Responding officers found an unoccupied, abandoned vehicle that had suffered damage from running into the wire guardrail.
Connecticut State Police K9 Jaris was called to the scene in Bridgewater, in an attempt to find the driver, who was believed to have fled on foot. After a 1/3 mile search, Jaris sniffed out two people that were hiding in the woods. They've been identified as Jennifer Cruz, 40, of Bethel, and Joshua Marcy, 32, of Danbury.
As the pair were being detained, Officers discovered multiple purses and plastic baggies in the woods where they were hiding. A search of the area turned up 35.5 grams of suspected narcotics, and a baggie of crushed up pills. Cruz owned up to the narcotics, while a Taser was discovered on Marcy, which was bad due to the fact that Marcy is a convicted felon. Both were placed under arrest and transported to Troop A.
Cruz was charged with Possession of Narcotics w/ Intent to Sell, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Evading Responsibility, Operating Under Suspension, Failure to Maintain Proper Lane, and Interference with an Officer. Marcy has been charged with Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Interference with an Officer/Resisting, and Criminal Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. Both were held on $75,000 bonds, and were arraigned at Torrington Superior Court.
