Connecticut Residents Tempted by Florida? Read This First
According to People, a Florida couple is now facing felony charges after a full-blown brawl broke out… on a pickleball court.
Let me repeat that.
A pickleball court.
Now before we go any further, Connecticut — I need to talk to you. This winter has been brutal. The kind of cold that seeps into your bones and makes you question every life choice that led you here. The kind of winter where you wake up, look outside, and briefly consider selling everything you own and fleeing to Florida for that warm, sweet, humidity-soaked air.

But I beg you… do not make major life decisions based on seasonal depression and frozen windshield wipers.
Because while we’re up here layering like survivalists, down in Port Orange, Florida — near Daytona Beach — police were responding to reports of TWENTY people involved in a physical fight at a country club pickleball court. And yes, at least some of them were seniors.

Authorities say a 63-year-old man allegedly started the whole thing over a rules dispute — accusing another player of stepping into the “kitchen,” which, if you’re not fluent in pickleball, is the no-volley zone near the net. Words were exchanged. Things escalated. And after the match, the argument turned personal.
According to reports, punches were thrown. A paddle was allegedly used as a weapon. One man was taken to the hospital with a cut over his eye. Another person was reportedly punched in the nose. A 70-year-old woman was pushed to the ground. The accused man and his wife are now both facing felony charges.
This is what that warm air does. It lulls you into thinking life is easy — and before you know it, you’re in a geriatric melee over recreational paddle sports.
So yes, Connecticut winters are harsh. They test your spirit. They make Florida look like a postcard.
But just remember: you may escape the cold… only to end up throwing hands in orthopedic footwear over a kitchen violation.
It's a horrific lawless swamp. Choose wisely.
