As the pandemic rages on into it's seventh month, the term "food insecurity" is being bandied about much too often. It's impossible for some to find affordable, basic food. I wrote an article yesterday about Waterbury's efforts to feed those in need with a free food giveaway in town, and today, I came across an event that will help out the less-fortunate living in Newtown that I'd like to share with you.

Newtown Savings Bank will be hosting a "Drive and Drop" Food Collection, at all of their branches, on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24, 2020. They'll be collecting non-perishable food items on Friday from 1-4PM, and on Saturday from 9AM-noon.

Some of the items that they've listed for suggested donations are:

  • Canned Fruits and Vegetables
  • Soup
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Tomato Products
  • Juice Boxes
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Personal Products
  • Dog/Cat Food
