Do you need some firewood for the upcoming winter? Do you enjoy the smell of woodchips in the crisp autumn air? You might want to hang out along I-84 in Danbury and Brookfield through the month of October 2024, the dead wood is coming down.

A month-long tree removal project is scheduled to get underway starting next Monday, September 30 and is scheduled to last all the way up to just before Halloween, October 28, 2024, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Workers will be out there over the next month taking down all of the dead, decaying and diseased trees along I-84 between Danbury and Brookfield that they can spot. The work will require temporary lane closures along I-84 East and West during the evening and overnight hours of 6:30PM until 5AM for the duration of the project.

Any piece of vegetation that encroaches on the highway "clear zone' the area of the shoulder, or any space where a vehicle can safely pull over will be taken down during the clearing operation.

This upcoming tree-trimming project is a continuation and advancement of the work that has already occurred on I-84 in the area of the Rt. 7 interchange. Thousands of trees that were a little too close to I-84 have been removed along the roadway over the past few years, most recently near Exit 14 in Southbury, and also in the vicinity of I-84 near Exit 9 in Hawleyville/Newtown.

The DOT again reminds motorists to maintain a safe speed while driving through any work area.
