We take our coffee very seriously in Connecticut, we have hundreds national, regional, and locally-owned coffeehouses in nearly every town. You can't go more than a few miles without passing a Dunkin', Starbucks, Aroma Joe's, or a local coffee merchant. Connecticut is the fictional home of Stars Hollow and those coffee guzzling Gilmore Girls, we have a coffee-addicted image to uphold.

China's Largest Coffee Chain Has Opened Up Two Shops in the Northeast

A new competitor to the Starbucks and Dunkin saturation of the US has just opened up their first two locations in Manhattan, and they're closing in on Starbucks globally. Luckin Coffee has just opened up their first two locations in the United States nearby in Manhattan. Luckin Coffee is now being served at 755 Broadway in Greenwich Village, and the other at 800 Sixth Avenue.

Never heard of Luckin Coffee? Yeah, me either, but we will soon around here. Luckin was started in 2017 in Beijing, China, and with their business model of offering products cheaper than their competitors it has allowed them to grow to over 26,000 locations worldwide as of earlier this year. On July 30, 2025, this global powerhouse that rivals Starbucks and McDonalds in overall locations has dipped their proverbial coffee-stirrer into the great melting pot of America.

I'm hoping that more Aroma Joe's open before a Luckin Coffee does around Connecticut, but I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before we realize that a $2 coffee might be just as good as the $7-8 ones we get now?
