Litchfield County to Receive Millions in STEAP Funds From State
Have you heard of the State of Connecticut's Small Town Economic Assistance Program? You will if you live in the small towns of Litchfield County soon.
Good news arrived this week in Canaan, Colebrook, Litchfield, New Milford, Roxbury, Salisbury, Sharon, and Sherman in Litchfield County. That loud "Whoopie' you heard in the municipal offices of those towns this week may have been around the time that Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced the release of $30 million dollars in state STEAP funds to 46 of Connecticut's smaller towns. The majority of these funds will be used to complete a wide array of infrastructure improvements, road reconstruction projects, and recreational and first responder facility upgrades.

According to the press release from Governor Lamont, Canaan will receive $620,051 for critical municipal infrastructure improvements, while Colebrook will receive $412,739 for municipal road and parking lot renovations. Litchfield scored $500,000 for the reconstruction of Wigwam Road, while $1 million dollars of funding will go to the reconstruction of Merryall Road in New Milford.
Roxbury will receive $1 million dollars for the Roxbury Volunteer Ambulance Building, Salisbury got $328,000 for Municipal Safety Complex and Community Hall repairs and upgrades, Sharon's River Road will be paved and embankment stabilized to the tune of $1 million dollars, while Sherman will use $230,000 in state funding to repair and renovate the Scouthouse.
Looking through the list of 46 small town beneficiaries, multiple small towns were awarded $1 million dollar grants: Beacon Falls, Berlin, Branford, Cheshire, Durham, Essex, Farmington, New Milford, North Branford, Portland, Putnam, Roxbury, Sharon, Shelton, Voluntown, and Westport. The smallest amount? North Stonington's $66,721.
