‘I’ll Blow Your Heads Off’ Threat Leads to Arrest in Connecticut
According to a press release from the CT State Police, a Windham man was arrested early Saturday morning (11/16/24), after causing a disturbance on Route 32 in Windham. Troopers were dispatched around 2:30 AM following a 911 call reporting a man dressed in all black walking in the roadway toward Franklin.
When the first officer arrived, he said he witnessed two men in dark clothing, one on the side of the road and the other walking in the roadway just south of the Alice Street intersection. As the officer approached in his cruiser, he reports that one man moved to the side of the road, while the other crossed into the lane of traffic. For safety, the officer illuminated the man crossing the road with his emergency lights and spotlight.
As the officer continued to approach, the man who had crossed the road began to walk away, and the other man reportedly took off into the woods. The officer states he attempted to make contact with the second man, who was walking backward with his hands in his pockets. The officer says he instructed the man to show his hands several times, which he briefly did before hiding them again. The officer then detained the man in handcuffs until backup arrived.
The detained man, was identified as 26-year-old Maxx Gallup of Windham, police say he became more and more belligerent and refused to identify himself. The officer also reported signs of alcohol impairment. His behavior reportedly caused a stir in the area, with nearby residents coming outside to see what was going on.
Once additional officers arrived, they say Gallup threatened the Troopers, saying he would "blow their heads off." At this point, he was placed under arrest and transported to Troop K for processing. During the investigation, Gallup was also found to have two active arrest warrants from the Willimantic Police Department. A K9 unit was deployed to track the man who fled into the woods, but the search turned up nothing.
Gallup later informed Troopers that the man who fled was a family member, and after contacting him by phone, it was confirmed that he was safe.
Maxx Gallup now faces the following charges:
- CGS 14-300c(b): Walking on a Public Roadway while Intoxicated
- CGS 53a-167a: Interfering with an Officer/Resisting
- CGS 53a-181: Breach of Peace 2nd Degree
- CGS 53a-61aa(a)(3): Threatening 1st Degree
Gallup was held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Danielson Superior Court on November 18, 2024. The Willimantic Police Department was notified that Gallup was being held on bond.
P.S. I've met a lot folks who could "use some help" in my time and from my experience "I'll blow your heads off" is a pretty standard threat even when they don't have a gun on them.
P.S. #2 - Why did the guy who bounced into the woods come out clean, clear and under control? Maybe it does pay to run into the woods? I mean he did not threaten to blow heads off but he wasn't running for no reason.
