Not too long ago, I was having a conversation with a friend of mine in Maine when they casually asked, “Do you want to hear something cool about Maine?” Before I even had a chance to say yes, they hit me with a fun little fact: billboards are banned in Maine. That's right, you can drive around the state without being bombarded by giant advertisements on the side of the road.

Apparently, Maine isn't the only New England state that has decided to keep its roads a little less cluttered. A recent Reddit post about Connecticut caught my attention because it introduced me to another interesting fact: Vermont also bans billboards.

The post came from u/oochie_wally1 who wrote:

"I know we have a lot going on in this state- but can we ban billboards like Vermont?

I cant stand them - the ambulance chasers, the way too bright electronic screens, the wrapped busses, etc etc etc… I hate them all year round, but especially this time of year, they’re just so abrasive and ugly.

I was shocked what a difference it made in VT over the summer not seeing them all along the highway (and every other roadway).

I know there’s ZERO chance this would ever happen but it’s nice to complain and commiserate sometimes.

Oh look, a cloud, I gotta go yell at it."

I'm with Oochie 1,000% on this one. Once you start paying attention to how these billboards look along our roads and then compare that with places where they aren't allowed, the difference is night and day. You really start to notice how much they clutter up the scenery and take away from the natural beauty of an area. Meanwhile, you cross into a state like Vermont and get to enjoy the view without a giant advertisement screaming at you every few miles. I think it's time we pumped the brakes on the billboards, homie. Let us enjoy the scenery!

Here is what others had to say:

Questorps7: We can ban all billboards EXCEPT the Fairfield Pool “Your Wife is Hot” billboard. That one gets to stay.

Calbebes: I like the Trantolo one where they say “at least we didn’t put our big faces on it”

behaved: I googled what this is and the first result is a site petitioning to remove it. The petition closed with 69 supporters. Nice.

There were many more comments, but you get the idea, apparently Connecticut residents would support a ban on an unfunny billboards. I dig it.
