If You Find a Dryer Sheet in Your Mailbox, There’s a Good Reason

Now it may seem strange to find a dryer sheet in your mailbox, and no it's not some neighborhood kids playing a prank, believe it or not, the dryer sheet actually was put there by your mail carrier.

Looks like the dryer sheet trick is a great way to keep postal workers safe from wasps and yellowjackets that may have made a nest in or around your mailbox.

According to dailymail.com, last month, a postal worker posted on Reddit that if you randomly see a dryer sheet in the back of your mailbox, your mail carrier put it there for a reason and you should just leave it there.

The reasoning behind this strange trick is that sometimes bees make a nest in your mailbox and scented dryer sheets have been known to work in keeping them at bay and away from whoever is messing with the mailbox.

This is the time of year when the weather warms up nice during the day and chills out a bit at night, so the mailbox is a perfect place for a wasp or yellowjacket nest, and if a mail carrier is unaware of the nest, well you can pretty much figure out the outcome.

Fortunately, some mail carrier somewhere gave the dryer sheet trick a try, and it worked. Seems like the secret is that bees hate the scent of the dryer sheet and will probably leave the nest when they are exposed to one.

Keep in mind that this is only a preventative measure, and is not the end all be all solution for getting rid of the nest. The nest has to be removed in order to keep the bee's out of your mailbox. It is recommended that you call a bee and insect specialist to have the nest removed safely.
