Recently, we were chatting with Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves about the event and exchanged wardrobe plans for the night. When I mentioned I'd be wearing a suit, he proposed a role-reversal.

Lou: Typically, this is a running theme on the show for all three of us—we commit to an event and then we’re bummed out when we have to go. It’s just that we’re homebodies; that’s the simple way to put it. But I’m really excited about the Danbury Museum event at the Amber Room Colonnade, their big gala. You’ll be there, I’ll be there, and Don Wildman from Mysteries at the Museum is the keynote speaker. Brigid Guertin and the folks at the Danbury Museum and Historical Society do an amazing job, so I’m pumped, dude. How about you?

Mayor: "I'm excited—excited to actually go. Listen, Lou, we love you on the radio; you're great at events. I know it’s not your favorite thing to do, but we’re going to make this one fun. Maybe we can go get some drinks afterward. Shout out to the Danbury Museum, Brigid Guertin, and everyone there—they do a phenomenal job. I was just with the Chair of their board the other day, retired Fire Chief Jeff Haroldson here in Danbury. He’s an incredibly knowledgeable individual and another huge advocate for Danbury, but specifically for the Museum & Historical Society. Jeff, Bob Doyle, everybody—I can’t wait to see them at the event. If any of your listeners are looking for tickets, I know it's close, but we can call them and see what they can do. Doug at the Amber Room works magic; I don't know how, but it's going to be a great event."

Lou: My fit is gonna be insane! My suit is being tailored as we speak and I'm of course putting money back into the local, family-owned businesses here in Danbury. I'm brought my suit to Nancy's Dress right downtown and she's tailoring it up for me right now. I'm pumped!

Mayor: "You're wearing a suit—should I dress down? Maybe wear an I-95 t-shirt? I’ve worn them to balls in the past. I’m not sure if I’ll wear it to this one, but I have an old hat made in Danbury at one of the hat factories. It's incredible. Maybe I’ll let you rock that one, Lou, with your suit."

Lou: How many people had to die for that hat? Wasn't it the poison, isn't that where the Mad Hatter thing came from? All the chemicals that they were using would drive people insane!

Mayor: "I don't know what you're talking about, it's fine."

8 Main Street Danbury Facts So Unbelievable, They Have to be True

Danbury: "The Hat City"

At one time. Danbury was known as the hat making center of the universe. The hat making industry is what this town was built on but frankly, I'm tired of talking about hats. We are so much more than that. Danbury has a lot of intriguing true stories and many of them originated in the same place, Main Street. Main Street Danbury holds truths so unbelievable, you kind of have to. How can one 2-mile stretch of road, hold so many stories? I just does.

44 Images From Inside the Haunting + Historic Old Jail in Danbury

Rich history and survival is the story of Danbury's Old Jail. It's historical significance in the Hat City is unquestionable, and many residents know some of the facts. What people may not know, is that it took great effort on the part of many Danbury residents to keep it protected. It's not a miracle that it stands today, it's a result of hard work and respect for the City's narrative. Here I share with you some of the facts that make the Old Jail special, the work it took to keep it intact and why I found the space haunting.

Inside the Holding Cells and Grand Rooms of Danbury's Fairfield County Courthouse

One of Danbury's most significant buildings is the vacant courthouse on Main Street. I took a tour of it recently and captured images to share with you. This is a look at the judge's chambers, inside the holding cells and around the grand courtroom of the Fairfield County Courthouse.

Exploring Beyond the Rusty Gates of Danbury's Oldest Cemetery on Wooster Street

I live just down the block from the Wooster Street Cemetery and whenever I pass, I am always struck at how odd it is. You have this quiet, beautiful place that is dedicated to the people who were buried there, in the middle of a busy city and almost no one ever goes there. I decided to go take a deeper look around and see what was beyond the iron gates and stone walls.

8 Fun Facts About Danbury Airport

I think there are a handful of places in Danbury that residents are really curious about but never bother to look into, one of those places is the Danbury Airport. We pass it on the way to the mall, or leaving after a day of shopping. We look down on it from Route 7 and wonder about it, but most of us simply don’t know.

Thankfully, we have Mike Allen who made the airport the subject of the most recent episode of “The Place You Live”. On Tuesday (2/1/22), Allen shared his research with us and these are 8 fun facts we learned about Danbury Airport.

Esposito VS. Alves: A Complete Breakdown of Danbury’s 2021 Mayoral Race

Voting in a local election is one the best ways to express your beliefs and immediately impact the world around you but how can you really know a candidate from a few quotes in the local newspaper? You can't.

The paper cannot give you a sense for the candidates personality nor can they show you how the person performs under pressure. A radio interview is a much more intimate thing and you can learn who your local candidates are on a deeper level.

In the weeks leading up to the 2021 Danbury Mayoral Election, we believe we have provided Hat City voters with an unbiased view of their options. Each Friday we brought Roberto Alves and Dean Esposito on the Ethan and Lou Show and asked them both the same questions.

Because the person who goes last, has the ability/advantage of answering to the first candidate, we would alternate the order every few weeks. We did not endorse either candidate, we simply gave an even portrait of the two men, their politics and their vision for Danbury.

This is a look back at the I-95 Election coverage for you to review the day before Election. Below you will be given an excerpt from each article we did with the candidates and a link that can redirect you to the full article. Most of the articles include full interviews we conducted with your candidates, Vote tomorrow, it matters.
