According to a release from CityCenter Danbury, Downtown Danbury is about to get absolutely covered in color this weekend—and honestly, this might be one of the most fun events the city hosts all year.

CityCenter Danbury is inviting the community to celebrate HOLI, the traditional Hindu “Festival of Colors,” on Saturday, May 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the CityCenter Green on Ives Street. If you’ve never been to a Holi celebration before, imagine a giant outdoor party where people dance, eat incredible food, listen to music, and throw brightly colored powder into the air until everyone looks like they lost a fight inside a paint factory.

And I mean that in the best possible way.

The festival celebrates the arrival of spring and focuses on positivity, unity, and bringing people together. Organizers say the afternoon will feature multiple color throws throughout the event, music from DJ AD SaaZ, Bollywood dance performances, cultural entertainment, a colorful Indian fashion show, local vendors, and plenty of family-friendly activities.

Also—and this is very important—SPICE Indian Cuisine will be there serving food, which alone should probably be enough to get half of Connecticut to show up.

CityCenter Danbury Executive Director Lazaro Chavez called Holi one of the happiest and most visually exciting events the organization puts on downtown, and honestly, he’s not wrong. Few events let you leave looking like a human tie-dye shirt while also pretending you totally meant to stain your sneakers neon pink.

Organizers are encouraging people to wear white or bright-colored clothes and fully embrace the chaos because by the end of the afternoon, the entire CityCenter Green is basically going to look like a rainbow exploded in the middle of Danbury.

Honestly, this sounds like a perfect excuse to get outside, eat amazing food, and temporarily forget the world is on fire for a couple hours.

6 Everyday Connecticut Things That Outsiders Think We’re Totally Making Up

If you live in Connecticut long enough, you forget that the rest of America has no idea what we’re talking about half the time. We drop references to things like “Wethersfield Pizza Wars,” “the Mixmaster,” or “UConn women’s expectations” like they’re universal topics everyone everywhere discusses over coffee. But the moment an out-of-state visits, you remember oh right, none of this is normal. Connecticut is full of quirks that are perfectly reasonable to us and completely baffling to everyone else.
