WalletHub.com has just released Greenest Cities in America in 2025, where they've ranked the 100 largest cities across the US across 28 key green indicators. Some of the indicators used were air quality index, greenhouse gas emissions, water quality, population density, light pollution level, average commute time, intersection density, alternative fuel stations per capita, farmers markets and CSA programs per capita, and the presence of a plastic bag ban.

Only one city in all of New England ranked in the study - Boston at #15, while New York City landed at #27.

The subways and T's are the crowning jewel for the Northeast corridor, and the data backs it up. Connecticut has made an intense push to adopt green laws and practices in the past few decades, maybe Hartford will rank in the future?
