Friends of Ridgefield Man Charged in Capitol Riot Say He Doesn’t Belong in Jail

Patrick K. McCaughey III of Ridgefield was arrested for taking part in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Now friends and family are beginning to come forward to tell their story about a totally different man they know as a respectful, hardworking and kind individual, according to an article on ctinsider.

McCaughey has been charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, civil disorder, obstruction of an official proceeding, engaging in physical violence, disorderly and disruptive conduct.

Various friends and employers paint a much different picture of the man accused of rioting at the Capitol. They call him respectful, a gentleman, a hard worker who helps others, and volunteers for community events. Friends and family members are beginning to advocate for his release. So, what happened? Catherine Hazlehurst, who worked with McCaughey for the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra told CT Insider,

This is not the character of the young man I got to know and who I still believe him to be. There is so much good in him.

Video of McCaughey during the Capitol riots paints a picture of violence, destruction, and insurrection. Because McCaughey is a citizen of both the United States and Germany, prosecutors consider him a flight risk and a danger to the public.
