Normally I don't laugh when I hear news reports about violent crimes that occur in our area, but if you're from, or hate Waterbury, did you chuckle when you heard this one too?

After living in Waterbury, Connecticut for 50 years, one thing that I was used to was reading about crimes bring committed in my hometown by residents of New York City. The Republican-American Police blotter over the decades was littered with arrestees from all five Boroughs of New York City - Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and especially the Bronx. I guess it's inevitable when you have Metro North trains coming into and out of your city every day and night, right? Well, the following news may make you chuckle.

For once, WFSB.com reports that over this past weekend two men from Waterbury were arrested in Manhattan after an alleged armed robbery and carjacking. The two Waterbury men that were arrested are 20 and 21 years old, and allegedly stole someone's vehicle at gunpoint. The stolen vehicle was abandoned in the area of Broadway and West 138th Street, but the NYPD was able to pick them up. Both were armed when the NYPD caught up with them. The suspects were taken into custody, charged with robbery, grand theft auto, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal possession of a machine gun, among other charges, according to wfsb.com.

Maybe these alleged criminals thought it was time to get called up into the big game, or there was a square inch of Manhattan that isn't being monitored by someone? It didn't happen, but at least I got a laugh out of crime, for once. Oh, by the way, the carjacking victim was not harmed.
