Deadliest Highway in the U.S. Goes Through Connecticut and New York

Summer is totally road trip season and one of the greatest things about living in the Northeast and New England is how perfect it is for summer getaways by car. So many states with such different personalities. Love it.

That said, it's probably not a shock when you think about the density and population of Connecticut, New York, and New England in general where we love to travel regionally for those fantastic road trips also includes America's deadliest highway.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration accidents can happen any time, and chances increase not only with speed, distracted driving, weather, time of day, and impaired drivers, but also location.

That's where Interstate-95 comes in.

It can be a hellish drive on I-95 with traffic and congestion, especially in the Boston area, Providence, most of Connecticut and New York.

On I-95, 15 people on average are killed in car accidents every 100 miles. As you may know, it runs just south of Presque Isle, Maine down through the New Hampshire Seacoast through Boston, Providence, and along the Connecticut shoreline, into New York, through Philly, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., all the way down to Miami, Florida.

According to The Zebra website, winter plays a big role in the number of people killed on I-95 because of ice and snow, while the Florida section is next in line for the most fatalities. However, even in the summer it's still the most dangerous in not just Connecticut and New York, but the country.

By the way, Vermont is the only state in New England that doesn't deal with 95 however you still may have to take it to get there depending on where you're coming from.
