Danbury’s AJ Galante Makes Appearance on Jumbotron at WWE Smackdown
AJ Galante was the prince of Danbury back in 2004 as the kid President of the Danbury Trashers and now he's enjoying fame on a whole new national level.
Ever since the release of the Netflix Documentary "Untold" about his time as the Trashers President, Galante has become known on a national stage.
The first sign that the documentary would change Galante's life came days after the debut of the film when Drake reached out and asked for a Trashers jersey, we knew then the world had gone Trashers crazy.
Lately, it's been a blur of media requests and personal appearances. We spoke to Galante at our Camping for Cans food drive on Saturday (11/20/21) and asked him about some of these recent events.
He said he's been invited to appear at conventions in Chicago and Las Vegas recently and the fan response was overwhelming when he really didn't even expect to be recognized.
Next, the lifelong wrestling fan would be put up on the jumbotron at WWE's Friday night Smackdown event in CT.
The WWE invited the Galantes to Hartford and debuted the new Danbury Trashers/WWE t-shirt. We reached out to Galante and asked what it felt like to be honored by an organization he's loved since he was a kid, he replied:
"Growing up, wrestling was my first love. I'll never forget when my Dad took me to my first WWF show at Madison Square Garden in 1993, I fell in love instantly. To have the WWE want to do a dual t-shirt with the Trashers was unreal to me.
They invited us to Smackdown in Hartford and treated us so great. To see the Trashers shirt on the WWE shop and displayed next to some of the biggest wrestlers merchandise was insane.
And, to get on the jumbotron was almost like an out of body experience. I'm super grateful to the WWE."
The dual Trashers/WWE t-shirt are available to purchase on the WWE Shop right now.
We've spent a lot of time with AJ and Jimmy recently, we are the only local media company (I-95/Townsquare Media) that the Galantes speak to on a regular basis and I can tell you that AJ is taking all this attention in the right way. He's been humble and appreciative while drawing a lot of eyes to our city.
P.S. You read that right, he was on the 'Beard Cam', that is a testament to the work of Dave's Barbershop in Danbury, they do AJ's hair and beard. I split my time between Dave's and Legend's Barbershop in Danbury, it's complicated but they are both great.
