Spike in Car Thefts Prompts Warning From Danbury Police
According to the Danbury Police Department, there’s been a recent increase in car thefts across the city — and officials want residents to be extra cautious.

Police say they are actively investigating the incidents and increasing patrols in the affected neighborhoods. At the same time, they’re reminding people that many of these thefts are crimes of opportunity. If a vehicle is left unlocked or valuables are visible inside, it makes things a whole lot easier for someone looking to make a quick grab.
Here are the simple steps Danbury Police are urging everyone to follow:
- Always lock your doors and roll up your windows
- Remove valuables from sight
- Park in well lit areas whenever possible
- Report suspicious activity immediately
If you notice something suspicious, call Danbury Police right away at 203-797-4611. If you have Ring or other security camera footage that may show suspicious activity, they’re asking residents to share that as well.
Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting DANBURYPD along with your message to 847411, calling the tip line at 203-790-8477, or submitting information through Tip411 online.
Bottom line: take the extra few seconds to secure your vehicle. It’s a small step that can prevent a major headache.
Honestly, if someone stole my car right now, I might send them a thank-you card. My dream is to live within walking distance of the office and never have to leave my neighborhood. Owning a car feels like a full-time headache — maintenance, gas, insurance, random dashboard lights that pop on just to ruin your day. It’s exhausting.
I remember being 16 and thinking a car was the ultimate symbol of freedom and luxury. Now? It’s mostly aggravation with cup holders.
That said, I realize most of you would prefer to keep your vehicles — so do yourself a favor and lock those doors.
