Expensive and Connecticut? Sounds about right.

Every time I take a trip to the grocery store, I'm reminded about how expensive pretty much everything is. I can fill not even 1 grocery bag and it will still cost me $60 to $100. It's a very scary reality that we face on a daily basis.

It's hard to think of stores that aren't going to completely empty your pockets nowadays, but it's even scarier to think that some of the most expensive places in the country sit right in our state. We're known for how expensive things are around here, so it's no surprise that we have some of the most expensive places living in Connecticut.

Three of the Most Overpriced Grocery Stores in the Country Can Be Found in Connecticut

Delish has a list of the most overpriced grocery stores in America, and 3 out of 5 of the stores can be found right here in Connecticut. I'll still never understand why some stores price items different than others when it's all the same thing, but I guess that comes with the name of the store you're buying it from.

The first on the list that can be found in Connecticut - Whole Foods. There are currently 12 Whole Foods locations in Connecticut:

  • Danbury
  • Milford
  • Stamford
  • West Hartford x2
  • Fairfield
  • Darien
  • Westport
  • Greenwich
  • Glastonbury
  • Avon
  • South Windsor

Next on the list, Acme Markets. While Connecticut doesn't have many Acme stores right now, they still do reside here. The Acme Markets locations in Connecticut are:

  • Greenwich
  • New Canaan
  • Riverside
  • Stamford

Next on the list, The Fresh Market. I've actually never been to this grocery store before and didn't even know that some locations were in Connecticut. According to the article, the founders took a trip to Europe and were inspired by all of the open-air markets and that's how The Fresh Market was created. The current Connecticut locations are:

  • Avon
  • Guilford
  • Westport
  • Wethersfield

There were two other grocery stores to make that list that don't reside in Connecticut. Erewhon Market was the first. They are a neighborhood spot in Lost Angeles with 9 locations across LA County. They're known for their "Hailey Bieber smoothies" and have an annual membership of $200. The second store not in Connecticut? Harris Teeter. They're a subsidiary of Kroger and have 250 locations across the Southeast.

I know we all have our "regular" grocery stores and one of these may be yours, but it's more of a PSA when thinking about where you're shopping. Everyone has a preference and these stores may be yours.

Four Businesses in Waterbury That Would Survive The Apocalypse

There are just some businesses too engrained in our neighborhoods that recession, price increases, cordyceps, and even the apocalypse could kill. I spent 50 of my years in Waterbury, and these four places have not changed, nor should they.

The Culinary Highlights Along Route 44 Through Litchfield County

I love exploring Litchfield County since I made the move to Torrington, there are so many underrated restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that don't get the attention of someplace in Hartford, New Haven, or Danbury. Route 44 is a major roadway that cuts across Northern Litchfield County east to west from Lakeville to New Hartford, if you're hungry, here are some great places to stop.
