The truth is, that almost never happens. They don't print the stories about the countless people who crawl in a dumpster and come out with Hepatitis but I'm sure that is much more common.

That said, I'm not here to judge, if you think your local dumpster has what you need inside of it, have at it. The real question lingers, is it even legal to dumpster dive in the great State of Connecticut?

Burning Dumpster Fire Smoke Pollution Communal Problem

I did some digging of my own and came up with the answer, you are good to go! Bizzare Hobby did an entire article on this and they say:

"In Connecticut, there are no laws preventing garbage diving. Dumpster diving is, in fact, perfectly permitted in this state. You must, however, follow your state’s trespassing laws as well as the ordinances and statutes of the city or municipality. If you go trash diving without permission in Connecticut, you risk getting charged for trespassing, as every business and private residence is considered private property."

Furthermore, they claim that Connecticut is a dumpster diving heaven. They say that affluent communities like Darien, Wilton and Greenwich are magnets for experienced divers. BH says CT is "one of the most popular trash diving destinations in the country, with 16 shopping centers and tens of thousands of residential units."

It appears the freedom to climb into oversized garbage pails is not exclusive to Connecticut. According to a Tik-Toker named jenn_nnifer dumpster diving is technically legal in all 50 states.

@jenn_nniffer Dumpster diving is legal in all 50 states (check local city ordinances) Stores will often throw away still edible or usable products & divers salvage these items from landfills for use, repurpose, donation or sell. I wish all stores didnt waste to this extent but until then, be kind to divers. #dumpsterdiving #dumpsterdiver #donatenotdump ♬ big weenie - ❁ཻུ۪۪♡ ͎. 。˚ °

How about that? Feel free to get out there and get some stank on ya!
