Will Cracker Barrel Lose Its Charm In New England?
Cracker Barrel Restaurants are not common in New England, we only have two in Connecticut. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is actually a Southern product, born in Lebanon, Tennessee in 1969, and as of 2024 there were 650+ locations across the US.

Cracker Barrel serves classic Souther cuisine - Biscuits and Gravy, Grits, Chicken Fried Steak, Catfish, and the all-day Breakfast menu that long-haul truckers and family vacation caravans love. What I love about them is the items available in the Old Country Store you have to walk through to get to your table. Packages of Big League Chew sit next to Pop Rocks, Necco Wafers, and salt-water taffy straight from the boardwalk. I've relived my childhood many times at the Cracker Barrel off 91 in East Windsor, and off of 84 and 9 in Fishkill.
Just When You Get Used to Charm, Change is Coming
Well, change may be coming to the Cracker Barrel Restaurants in New England. The company announced in May 2024 that they were launching a three-year plan to transform their image with modern remodels and updated menus. Just recently, the rest of the country is seeing what has happened during the refresh. Here's a video from a couple of gentlemen reviewing the new concept -
The 'New' Old Country Store portion reminds me of walking through The Paper Store, and the 'New' menu looks like any other national casual chain. Don't mess with New England's Cracker Barrels, we're creatures of habit, we have no Stuckey's, Buc-ee's, or any kind of restaurant that serves all-day restaurants.
