Connecticut Woman’s Incredible Save Puts USA in the World Cup Finals
The U.S. Women's soccer team is heading to the World Cup final thanks to a great save by Connecticut native Alyssa Naeher.
Naeher was born in Bridgeport and raised in Stratford. According to The Hour, Naeher and her twin sister Amanda were both exceptional soccer and basketball players at Christian Heritage in Trumbull. She went on to play for Penn State in college and has played professional soccer for both US and German teams since graduating.
On Tuesday, she made what was "probably the biggest save of her life" in the semifinal game against England. She stopped a penalty kick from England captain Steph Moulton to help seal a 2-1 victory over the British team.
Naeher and her teammates will play the winner of Wednesday's Netherlands vs Sweden semifinal game, in the finals on Sunday at 11 AM our time.
