Fall Colors In Connecticut Are Running Late This Year
Today is Tuesday, October 7, 2025, and it's 74 degrees outside with a high near 80 expected today. Are you biding your time until the greatest show of color Mother Nature can provide around New England? Slow your roll, the Connecticut Fall foliage timing is behind schedule this year.
According to basically everyone that predicts how good or bad the leaves will be when they turn colors this year, we were on track for the first bursts of Autumn in Litchfield County two weeks ago. I can tell you after a trip through Canaan, Kent, and Salisbury over this past weekend that while there are a few trees that have made the turn to brilliant red, orange, and yellow, I'd estimate that we're still around 60% green in Litchfield County?
Where are Connecticut's best places to peep the most colorful leaves Connecticut has to offer? Traditionally the trip along Rt. 7 from New Milford to Great Barrington, Massachusetts provides multiple opportunities to ooh and aah at vast seas of orange, but it can get a bit crowded. An alternate route that takes you a little more East from New Milford is Rt. 202. I've always enjoyed seeing the Fall foliage along Rt. 8 in between Naugatuck and Seymour, the twists and turns along the Naugatuck River through Beacon Falls are incredible.
Another great place to take in the beautiful colors is Castle Craig in Meriden, tonight they're actually opening the gates up after sunset to see the full Harvest Moon, but during the daytime you can see basically central Connecticut from Long Island Sound all the way to Hartford and beyond from that perch.
Wait until the week before Halloween, Litchfield County should be blazing with colors by then.
