Connecticut Has Some of The Most Expensive Energy Costs in U.S.

Eversource energy rates have been a really sore subject around the Nutmeg State recently. Folks have been complaining about the rising cost of Connecticut energy to anyone who will listen and I don't blame them, I am feeling the pain myself.

Whenever there is outrage there is always someone who will chime in and say it's like that everywhere. So, I got to wondering if that is true, is Connecticut's energy problem comparable to other states?

I found a new study from Wallet Hub that broke down this question by the numbers and what they found will only stand to reinforce our collective frustration. It turns out Connecticut energy rates are some of the most expensive in America.

Here are the Top 10 Most Expensive Energy States:

10. Virginia - $694 - Total Energy Cost

9. South Dakota - $709 - Total Energy Cost

8. Alaska - $716 - Total Energy Cost

7. Connecticut - $750 - Total Energy Cost

6. Massachusetts - $759 - Total Energy Cost

5. Minnesota - $782 - Total Energy Cost

4. Montana - $787 - Total Energy Cost

3. Iowa - $798 - Total Energy Cost

2. North Dakota - $840 - Total Energy Cost

1. Wyoming - $1591 - Total Energy Cost

It's worth noting that the total number includes things other than electricity rates. The figures come from a combination of metrics that include:

Electricity Price
Electricity Consumption Per Consumer
Natural Gas Price
Natural-Gas Consumption Per Consumer
Motor Fuel Price
Motor-Fuel Price Consumption Per Driver
Home Heating Oil Price
Home-Heating Oil Consumption Per Consumer

However, those additional items like gas and oil prices only made our state look better. When you remove them and look solely at Electricity Price we are the 5th most expensive state in the nation. Here are the rankings for Electricity Price only:
