Connecticut Ranks Among America’s Richest States, According to New Report
According to Stacker, the richest states in America look a little different this year, even though the U.S. median household income only crept up to $83,730. Prices are still high, inflation still nags at everyone, and depending on where you live, a “good salary” can feel anything but good.

Stacker points out that wealth isn’t just about income anymore — it’s about where you live, what industries thrive there, and whether you own anything that’s gone up in value. That’s why Connecticut once again cracked the Top 11 richest states in the country, fueled by high-earning households and expensive real estate.
Here’s how the Nutmeg State shakes out:
Median household income: $96,049
Households earning less than $10,000: 69,143
Households earning over $200,000: 282,615
Median earnings for workers: $52,631 (men: $79,701; women: $66,096)
Families below the poverty line: 7.7%
Residents with health insurance: 94.2%

Top 11 Wealthiest States in the Nation
1. Washington D.C.
2. Massachusetts
3. New Jersey
4. Maryland
5. Hawaii
6. California
7. New Hampshire
8. Washington
9. Colorado
10. Utah
11. Connecticut
So, Connecticut is officially the 11th richest state in America — which all sounds impressive, but you’d think with all this money pumping through the Nutmeg State, some of it would accidentally spill into my pocket. I mean, wealth by association isn’t a thing?
And if not, wouldn’t it stand to reason that I’d at least stumble across the occasional stray C-note blowing down the street? You’d think that would happen a few times a year. Isn’t that what people mean when they talk about trickle-down economics? This is all very upsetting.
