Connecticut Man Busted for DUI After Driving the Wrong Way on I-395
Connecticut State Police say a 23-year-old Thompson man had a wild Saturday morning after they caught him driving the wrong way on I-395 in Plainfield. Around 1:50 a.m., troopers started getting 911 calls about a white pickup heading north in the southbound lanes near Exit 28.

According to Connecticut State Police, when troopers tracked the truck down, they found it was exactly where callers said it would be — barreling straight toward them. They managed to stop the driver safely on the shoulder near Exit 29. Behind the wheel? Benjamin Benoit, who police say was on his phone at the time and had no idea he was on the wrong side of the highway.
Reports say Troopers quickly noticed the usual red flags: slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and that unmistakable smell of booze. Benoit didn’t do well on sobriety tests, and later testing showed his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
Police say the truck was unregistered and Benoit was illegally using a handheld phone while driving. He was arrested without incident, released on a $500 bond, and will face a judge in Danielson Superior Court on September 26.
