Congratulations to all the new officers. Now, if I could just get one of them to save me.

Not only does May bring us the awesomeness of Memorial Day weekend, and the feel that summer is in the air, it also signals graduation season. There's nothing quite like the Pomp and Circumstance, of a military graduation. Of the five service academies, we have three of them near us. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

That Pomp and Circumstance came to Connecticut yesterday. In a story from courant.com, Jeh Johnson, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, gave the commencement address yesterday to 186 new coast guard officers as the Class of 2016 graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.

Founded in 1876, The United States Coast Guard Academy is the smallest of the five service academies.
