This time of year comes with huge decisions for young couples about to make the leap into marriage. You need to find a church, craft the guest list, get the cake, the music and all of it can be overwhelming. So many choices to make and one usually falls to the bottom of priority list, the honeymoon.

Should it really be that way? The honeymoon is more than a vacation, it is your first official action as a team rather than individuals. Who cares about the wedding? A wedding is one day where so many things can, and will go wrong. Your honeymoon is the real celebration of your lifelong journey.

Where should you go? Look at it this way, would you rather go to a restaurant that is empty or one where there is a line to get in? In most cases you'd choose the restaurant with the line because your peers are telling you, this is good.

So, what do your CT peers say about Honeymoons? Where do they go? According to a study published by Honeymoon Always, CT's top honeymoon destination is located on the southern tip of Mexico's Baja-California peninsula. Cabo San Lucas is the #1 spot for Nutmeg State newlyweds. Trip Advisor also says Cabo is one of the best places to visit for 2023. Folks from Connecticut are also very fond of Las Vegas and Puerto Vallarta for honeymoons.

The study also revealed our neighbors in New York prefer the shores of O'ahu in Hawaii and overall, Americans are most interested in Indonesia for their debut couples retreat.

My wife and I didn't get an actual honeymoon and I've noticed we are not alone. I thought we were a depressing unicorn couple but we're not. Some people don't take honeymoons because of their work schedule, others because of money, but there are a lot of partnerships that didn't launch with a vacation.

I think folks like us are battle-tested, we didn't "enjoy" each other while surrounded by dolphins and breathtaking vistas. No, we got right down to the fighting and bill paying. I do want to take her somewhere nice for an anniversary, she does put up with all of this.

The best trip we did take was early in our relationship for her mom's birthday. I was invited along with Erica's many family members to go to the Dominican Republic and it was amazing.

We did the resort thing but we also got off the beaten path and I got to see the neighborhoods her family once called home.

It was easily the best trip I've ever taken. If you've never been, I highly recommend the D.R.
