According to CNBC's latest rankings, Connecticut is officially one of the top 5 states in America for quality of life in 2025. That’s right, the Nutmeg State didn’t just make the list, it landed in the top tier, and if you live here, you probably already know why.

So, what earned us a spot on that list?

Let’s start with the basics. When you’re choosing a place to live, you want it to be safe and healthy. Connecticut checks both boxes. In 2023, there were just over 5,500 violent crimes statewide, giving us the 4th lowest crime rate in the country.

Health-wise, we’re doing great too. The United Health Foundation ranked Connecticut number 5 in the U.S. for overall health. We’ve got low levels of physical and mental stress, and one of the lowest obesity rates in the country.

On top of that, the state gets credit for its inclusive laws and strong worker protections. It’s the kind of place that values fairness, which makes it attractive to workers and businesses alike.

It’s not all perfect. Air quality continues to be a major issue, with Connecticut coming in dead last for that category due to high levels of ozone and particulate matter. And since 2007, the state has seen a 235% rise in drug-related deaths—another serious concern that needs ongoing attention.

Even with those challenges, CNBC gave Connecticut a Quality-of-Life Score of 179 out of 265, earning us a “B” grade overall and a top 5 finish nationwide.
