Bantam Lake Could See New Restrictions On Water Sports Soon
If you just bought a brand new boat to enjoy some high-speed leisure time on Lake Waramaug or Bantam Lake, you should probably slow your roll.

Just a few weeks ago on July 31, 2025, residents of Kent, Washington, and Warren voted to ban wake boarding/surfing on Lake Waramaug. According to protectlakewaramaug.org, the final vote tally from all three towns averaged out to a 78% to 22% ratio in favor of the ban. Proponents of the ban pointed out that over 300 lakes across the US have banned wakeboarding/surfing due to the erosion, damage, degradation of water quality, and safety issues caused by the effects that a fast moving boat on a smaller piece of water can cause.
Here Comes Another Vote to Ban Wakesurfing in Litchfield County
The town of Morris, Connecticut has announced that they've set a special town meeting on Thursday, August 28 at 7PM at the Morris Community Hall to listen to what residents have to say to proposed regulations for wakeboarding on Bantam Lake. The proposal calls for a ban on water skiing within 200 feet of shore, and a 500 foot barrier from shore for wake boarding and wake surfing, with a complete ban of wake surfing in South Cove.
If the proposal is passed Thursday evening vuilators of the proposed ordinance would be subject to a $250 fine, and repeat offenders could face civil action in Superior Court.
Water is one of the most destructive forces on earth, and owners of lakefront property will tell you that repairs to docks and breakwaters are incredibly expensive.
