You’ll Waste More Time in Your Vehicle Here Than Anywhere Else in the US
Hello Fairfield County residents who commute to New York City, you already know this, but data has proven that you have to endure the worst traffic in all of the United States.
We live right in between three of the largest cities in the US: New York, Boston, and Providence. What do we get for that? Besides first dibs on the products coming off of the shipping containers, we have some of the worst traffic in the world. I started my broadcasting career as a mobile traffic reporter in 1991, and my driving route was I-95 and the Merritt Parkway between Stratford and Port Chester, NY. I spent almost a year sitting in that 20-mile delay on 95 Southbound between Bridgeport and Stamford, and it's only gotten worse since.

Inrix.com has just released their Global Traffic Scorecard for 2024, and the roadways into New York City have landed at #2 in traffic delays of everywhere in the world. The worst traffic delays on the planet for 2024? Getting into and out of Istanbul, Turkey.
I remember watching traffic reports from home in March and April 2020, when we were all in lockdown in fear of the 'Rona, and there were still some delays at times on 95 South between Norwalk and Exit 9 in Stamford. It returned to the normal 20 mile delay the week after most of us were cleared to go back to our offices.
This survey is a hell of an argument for better access to mass transit in Fairfield County, I'm amazed at the grit that daily commuters have shown to endure this mess.
