Who Will Have the Better NFL Season, The Jets or Giants?
Which team owns the hearts of the New York and New Jersey? Who runs NYC? At the moment neither team should be raising their hands.
The Giants and the Jets each had historic beginnings to the 2023-2024 season but not the kind of history you'd want to revisit. You'd have to live under a rock to have missed the Aaron Rodgers debacle but in case you do, here's what happened.
Four plays into Rodger's tenure as a Jet, he was injured. Tests showed Rodgers has a torn achilles and he is out for the season. The Jets were able to overcome the injury and beat the Bills to start the year 1-0.
As for the Giants, they opened the season at home against the rival Cowboys and were embarrassed in a 40-0 loss. They could not run the ball, they could not protect Daniel Jones, they got nothing going on offense. The only way the Giants were able to move the ball was in the other direction thanks to their three turnovers on the night. The New York Football Giants are 0-1 on the year.
I doubt there are fans of either team, who are in the mood to talk about how this season will play out but I'll ask the question anyway, who will have the better year? Will the Giants opener be an outlier? Can Zach Wilson put this all-star team in drive and do what Aaron Rodgers can't?
What do you think?

Last year, the Giants went 9-7-1 for the regular season, made the playoffs, beat the Vikings and fell to the Eagles. The Jets missed the playoffs and finished 7-10. According to the annual ESPN power rankings the Jets will be the the 13th best team in the league this year and the Giants are #16.
I think the Jets are the better team even without Aaron Rodgers but if history has taught me anything, there will be a lot of surprises. I've been watching NFL games for over 30 years and there is one thing I've learned in that time, I know nothing. Predicting the outcome of games or seasons is a foolish activity that also happens to be a lot of fun.
I attempted to go game-by-game with the Jets and come up with a number but it's a crazy schedule with peaks and valleys. They'll be battling some of the league's best like:
- Chiefs
- Eagles
- Bills (1 more time)
- Chargers
And they're playing teams that should be on the opposite side of things like:
- Bucs
- Falcons
- Commanders
- Texans
I cannot make heads or tails of it. I'm just glad it's back and we're talking football this is an amazing time of year.
P.S. I don't think it's worth my time to go through the Giants schedule, not if they're going to perform like they did in Week 1.
