The holidays really snuck up on me this year.

I guess this happens every year but I was just blasted in the face with reality when I went out the other day. Boom holiday shopping traffic like you read about. Nothing says the holidays are here like a wall of cars fighting to enter the parking lots of Costco, BJ's, Wal-Mart & Target.

I don't know if it's the same everywhere but I know when the calendar flips to November, all hell breaks loose on the streets of Greater-Danbury. I decided to turn it into a game this year rather than pull my hair out.

I'm setting out to see which Greater-Danbury area town has the worst holiday traffic. Let's start with Federal Road in Brookfield v. Danbury Road in Ridgefield. Here are some photos I took from early November and they are quite tame compared to the psycho circus that is to come.

VOTE NOW!

I don't want to influence the vote in any way but I would like to share some notes on each.

Brookfield: Yes, the recent construction on Federal Road did help a bit, it improved safety but you'll never be able to "fix" this because it's where people go to buy everything, for everything. You want tires, mustard, a hat with an elephant on it? You need to go to Federal Road in either Danbury or Brookfield to get them. You will take your life into your hands trying to make a left into Costco and that is just the price of doing business. It's also important to note that the parking lots on Federal Road are just as dangerous as the roads. I almost got run over, as a pedestrian by the same old man, three times in the ShopRite parking lot.

Ridgefield: If I was handicapping this little contest I'd make Ridgefield a bit of an underdog but don't count them out. Danbury Road in Ridgefield is where dreams go to die. Death threats happen on the streets of Ridgefield, EVERYDAY. I once had a dude who was my Dad's age give me the business (the finger and so much more). I could see where he was coming from, I was following the law and he was in violation of it, multiple times over. His face turned a color I'd seen since my childhood dog got overly excited. People think Bridgeport is dangerous, they should see Ridgefield at rush hour. Who had the bright idea of having a one-lane road supporting all of the traffic in and out of that town?

P.S. If I wave one person into to traffic, that is NOT an invitation for everyone to come in. This is not a jailbreak, don't be an a------.

P.S. #2: Does anyone work anymore?

Top 10 Things That Prove You Are a Real Connecticut Driver

Without asking someone for their driver's license I think I could tell if they were a CT driver. Connecticut folks give themselves away through their common knowledge, statements and experiences.

Some of Danbury's Best Gas Stations When You Are in A Rush

Whether stopping for gas, getting a coffee or just grabbing a snack, gas stations/convenience stores should be convenient, but that is not always the case. Sometimes you wait in long pump lines, some gas station lots have an odd configurations, the staff can be slow to ring you out or you get stuck behind people buying 50 Lotto tickets. These Danbury gas stations have cracked the code, they don't fall into the common mistakes that make a gas station stop a headache. These are "Some of Danbury's Best Gas Stations When You Are In a Rush."
