When One Bridge Opens in Southbury, Another One Closes
I know the saying is "When one door closes, another one opens", and you usually say that to someone that just lost their job, but it's the first thing that sprang into my brain when I read the news that a multi-month bridge closure in Southbury is finally over, but a new multi-month bridge closure will start up the very same day.
According to the Town of Southbury, Connecticut, after nine months of hard work River Road is finally ready to re-open on Monday, July 15, 2024. What have the hard workers been rebuilding since then? A 200 foot section of the road was critically damaged and partially collapsed after a series of very heavy rainstorms. It's been 9 months, and reports suggested the project cost went into the millions but Lake Zoar residents, it's finally done.
The bad news is that there is another bridge in Southbury near River Road that is in very rough shape, and the time has come to rectify that situation. Just as River Road re-opens from a nine-month long closure, a 2 1/2 month long closure will start for construction on the Purchase Brook Road Bridge.
The Purchase Brook Road Bridge is located at 812 Purchase Brook Road, and it's already been reduced to a one-way traffic pattern. The bridge will be closed to all traffic - Including vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, 24 hours a day/7 days a week, beginning Monday, July 15 and will remain closed until the scheduled re-opening date of Monday, September 30, 2024.
This is a tough area to detour, but one has been set in place for the closure. Click HERE for the details.
