We Just May Win the ‘No Heat Challenge’ to November in Connecticut
Thankfully the price of home heating oil has not shot through the roof as we approach the Winter of 24, but I'm still going to try like hell to not turn on my heat until November 1. We just may have a chance at winning the 'No Heat Challenge' this year in Connecticut.

Today is 10-10-24, and we have 21 days left until I can feel good about turning the heat on at my place. November 1, 2024 is my target date, I will do everything in my power to avoid turning that thermostat on: Bundle up. use extra blankets, leave the oven open after I'm done cooking my food, and pull up my shades to let as much sunlight into my house during the daytime as I can. Today, the high temp is expected to only reach 54 degrees in Torrington, but my resolve is strong.
For a long time now, I've tested myself with the No Heat Challenge, which is just me being stubborn and refusing to turn the heat on until the temperature drops inside below 50 degrees. Even then, my wife and I are so energy-conscious that we try to maintain our house at 60 degrees, and only turn it up to 65 when it's ridiculously cold and we can't feel our toes.
The hurricane that is passing through Florida right now will push some of that luxurious tropical air our way over this coming weekend. Most of the extended 10-day forecasts I've looked at bring our daytime temps into the 60-70 range at least every other day. Think warm, we got this challenge beat.
