Watertown Man Arrested For Reckless Driving Following Waterbury Crash
A Watertown man has been arrested and faces multiple charges after an early Sunday morning crash that injured two adults and two juveniles along Route 8 in Waterbury.
According to cspnews.org, Troopers from Southbury's Troop A were dispatched at 12:01AM on 1/26/25 to check on reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a roll over at Exit 32 of Route 8 North in Waterbury. According to 911 callers, a speeding vehicle had struck another vehicle from behind and rolled down an embankment.

Upon arrival, responding Troopers discovered two adults and two juveniles inside the vehicle that had been struck, fortunately all had suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital. Troopers also discovered the driver of the vehicle that had slid down the embankment and have identified him as Joselito Santiago Jr, 35, of Watertown, who was not injured.
According to the report, Santiago was aggressive and uncooperative with first responders at the scene and allegedly attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended. Exit 32 on Route 8 Northbound is Huntington Avenue in Waterbury, by the way, right along the Naugatuck River, and it was not a nice night for a swim.
While in custody, Santiago allegedly stumbled up the embankment, was unable to maintain his balance, and Troopers observed the smell of alcohol. Santiago was taken into custody after refusing to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Test a second time. Santiago was taken to Troop A and charged with Reckless Driving, Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, and Interfering with an Officer. While in custody, it was discovered that Santiago was on Parole for a previous offense, and was held on a $10,000 bond.
