How many times have you watched someone escape from the police on tv and in the movies by switching out their license plate with another vehicle? Does it work in real life? Apparently not for a 53-year-old man from Waterbury, who now faces multiple charges after being arrested by the Connecticut State Police.

According to the Connecticut State Police - Troop I and cspnews.org, it's a very bad idea to travel above 100+MPH on any roadway in Connecticut ever again, because yet another arrest has been announced today. On Friday, November 29 at 7:47PM, a Trooper from Troop I of the CSP was conducting speed enforcement along one of the fastest-moving portions of highways in all of Connecticut - I-91 Northbound in Wallingford. At that moment, the Trooper clocked a gray Hyundai on laser doing 98MPH and tried to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The gray Hyundai failed to stop for the Trooper and allegedly hit speeds of up to 122MPH across all three lanes of I-91, bobbing and weaving around vehicles as they fled. During the pursuit, the Trooper was able to obtain the plate number off of the gray Hyundai and pulled back in the interest of public safety. The plate came back to an address in Waterbury, but when the Trooper arrived on scene, the gray Hyundai was there, but the license plate had been switched out with a Florida one.

The driver of the gray Hyundai has been identified as Kendrick Amaker, 53 of Waterbury, who admitted that he tried the old switcheroo, but failed. Amaker was taken into custody and charged with Reckless Driving, Operating Under Suspension, Engaging Police in Pursuit, and interference with an Officer. Amaker is set to appear before a judge today in Meriden Superior Court.
