Walgreens to Close Hundreds of Stores, Additional Connecticut Locations Impacted
Here is something I found interesting. The Mirror reported that 2025 will likely be a record-breaking year for store closures in the U.S. That is an absolutely scary thought. They said it looks like about 15,000 stores will close across the country in the year of 2025. That is scary high number which I hope is not true.
Last year, Walgreens announced its plan to close 1,200 underperforming stores within a few years. They also planned to close 500 in the year of 2025. It looks like some Connecticut stores are apart of those closures. NBC CT reported that a Hartford and New Haven location closed this month. It looks like two more locations will be closing in April.

The Walgreens location at 1083 Boston Post Road in Milford will officially close their doors on April 21 and the 311 East Main Street in Middletown location will officially close their doors on April 23. What does that mean for the other locations? Will they all be closing soon too?
I'm not sure what the status looks like for the other Walgreens locations across the state. I guess only time will tell. I really do hate businesses closing, though. Especially for underperformance. It seems like Walgreens knows how to handle their locations closing pretty seamlessly. I found it interesting that they have a page on their website that is specifically for store closures. It tells you what to do, how to fill your prescriptions at another Walgreens, etc. Honestly, that is very proactive. I'm impressed.
I'm still stuck on the possible record-breaking year for store closures in the U.S. I hope that's not true.
