How Connecticut's Cities Rank Among America's Most Educated

With Yale University as our centerpiece, I'd imagine that Connecticut is home to some of the most educated folks in the United States, and I guessed right. As a matter of fact, three cities in Connecticut have been ranked in or near the Top 25 'Most Educated Cities in America - 2025.

According to WalletHub.com's Most & Least Educated Cities in America 2025, the cities of Bridgeport-Norwalk-Stamford in Fairfield County rank as the #17th Most Educated Cities for 2025. Hartford-East Hartford-Middletown rank as the #25 Most Educated, and New Haven-Milford Ranked at #27.

To arrive at their rankings WalletHub.com compared the 150 most populated metropolitan areas in the US across three key factors - Educational Attainment, Quality of Education, and Attainment Gap. Those statistics were further evaluatied using 11 relevant metrics: Share of Adults 25 or older with high school diploma, some college, Bachelor's Degree, or Graduate or Professional Degree. Quality of Public School system, Universities, Racial and Gender Education Gap, and number of Summer learning opportunities per capita.

According to WalletHub.com's research, Fairfield County ranked #12 in the US for 2025 in Educational Attainment, while the Quality of Education and Attainment Gap ranked among the worst in the US at #142. Both Hartford and New Haven's rankings had similar gaps of #20/121 in Hartford, and #23/113 for New Haven.

The most educated cities in the US for 2025 in WalletHub.com's rankings were #1- Ann Arbor, Michigan, #2- Durhan-Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and #3 - Madison, Wisconsin. In New England Boston ranked at #10, while Portland, Maine came in at #13. The least educated cities for 2025? Brownsville, Texas and Visalia, California.
