Thrill-Seekers: Dare to Rappel Down 30 Floors of Mohegan Sun?
Connecticut may not have the 1,000+ foot Strat tower like Las Vegas, but adrenaline-fueled thrill-seekers will have an opportunity to do something here in Connecticut that only the tallest buildings never let you do legally - Rappel down the side of a massive building.
I just received an invitation from Mohegan Sun and Special Olympics Connecticut to sign up for their event called "Over the Edge" which is taking place on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Mohegan Sun's 34 story Sky Tower. This is the 13th year that Mohegan Sun and Special Olympics Connecticut have partnered up to offer individuals a chance to step out onto the roof and rappel down the side of one of the tallest skyscrapers in Connecticut.

Over the Edge is not cheap, this is a fundraiser helping to support the Connecticut Special Olympics year-round sports, health, and fitness programs and their athletes around the state. The price to experience Mohegan Sun's Sky Tower as only few have? A minimum of $1,250, and you must weigh over 100 pounds. No previous rappelling experience will be required at the event, day-of training and continuous support will be provided from the top right down to the ground.
If rappelling indoors is more your style, here are four places around Connecticut where you can climb and fall inside:
- Rock Spot Climbing - 340 Quinnipiac Street - Wallingford
- Central Rock Gym - 259 Eastern Boulevard - Glastonbury
- Rock Climb Fairfield - 85 Mill Plain Road - Fairfield
- Central Rock Gym - 99 Shield Street - West Hartford
