Considering a STEM job? Don't pack up and move to the Pacific Northwest, Texas, or the Silicon Valley, according to a new study, Connecticut is home to three metro areas that have landed in the top 100 of best cities for STEM professionals in 2025.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Now we both know what STEM. STEM jobs are in high demand in the United States, and according to the US Bureau of Labor, demand for workers will increase by 10% over the next decade. Usnews.com lists Nurse Practitioner as the best STEM job, followed by IT Manager, Physician Assistant, Software Developer, and Information Security Analyst rounding out the Top 5. The starting salary for all five is over $120,000.

WalletHub.com has just released Best & Worst Metro Areas for STEM Professionals 2025, and three Connecticut metro areas have landed in the Top 100 for this year. In order to determine the best and worst markets for 2025, WalletHub.com compared 100 of the most populated metro areas in the US across three key dimensions: Professional Opportunities, STEM - Friendliness, and Quality of Life. The key dimensions were further evaluated using 21 relevant metrics (Job openings, Quality of Life, Engineering Schools, and Invention Patents per capita) and thus the rankings were complete.

WalletHub.com has listed three of our cities in the Top 100, with Hartford at #24, New Haven at #64, and Bridgeport at #87. Hartford's ranking in WalletHub.com's Quality of Life metric was #10 in the US.

The best metro area for STEM professionals in 2025? Austin, Texas, and Boston, Massachusetts. Hartford's Northerly neighbor Springfield, Massachusetts cracked the Top 10 for 2025, listed at #9.
