It was a beautiful September afternoon in Phoenicia, New York, where it was sunny with temps in the low 70s, a perfect day to hop aboard the Rail Explorers Catskills River Run tour.

So, what is a Rail Explorer? It's a pedal-powered bike that rides directly on railroad tracks. With 4 steel wheels, it’s easy to pedal along the mostly flat ground for a relaxing and enjoyable ride through the woods.

Not to worry because these pedal-powered rail cars come equipped with electric pedals. My son, Matt, had planned this adventure back in June because they sell out quickly. So Matt, Winnie, and Bradley, along with Mindy and I, piled into Matt's new Grand Cherokee Jeep L, and we were off on our 90-minute trip to the Catskills.
