There’s a Salt Shortage in Connecticut, Buy a Pair of These Instead
I've got a suggestion for everyone that is driving around looking for rock salt for your driveway: Before Connecticut ices over again, buy yourself a pair of Stabilicers, or Yaxtrax
Get ready for nothing but requests for plowing, shoveling and rock salt when you fire up your social media today, the driveways and sidewalks of Connecticut are covered in a thick coat of ice. It's not going to get any better this week, the temperature isn't going to go above freezing for the next six days according to the latest forecast. If you live in Torrington, Waterbury, and Danbury, our social media is filled with folks asking for a sanding, which store have salt, or for an emergency plow out. According to a lot of the posts I'm seeing most stores have sold out of the salt.
Our parking lot at our condo in Torrington is a sheet of ice right now, we got some sun during the day today which melted some of the 6' of snow, but it's ponded and frozen everywhere now at 4PM. Do I care? No, because I own Stabilicers from LL Bean, and a couple pairs of YakTrax. They're $20-50 rubber ice cleats that you can pull over any shoe or boot. When you put a pair on, they provide instant stability by digging into an icy surface with 20-30 steel studs or coils. I've been wearing them for 20 years, and I've never slipped or fallen once.
Every time I see someone gingerly creeping along over an icy surface, I tell them about these products. I hope you read this before your next dive.
