The English language is funny, even though some cities and words are spelled exactly the same way, depending on where you're from, how your parents and neighbors pronounced it, etc, there are a lot of ways that you might pronounce the name of where you live unexpectedly to an outsider. For example, I wrote about how it irks me when people mispronounce Wolcott as 'Wahl-cott'. It started me thinking about our area here in CT/NY, and how many other towns and cities around us are commonly mispronounced.
