Question: Are you a small-town lover or prefer city life instead?  When Mindy and I packed up all our belongings for our move to the small town of New Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1979, we were unprepared for the lifestyle change.

After years of bustling life in Rochester, NY, where the rhythm was dictated by honking horns and a swell of nightlife, the transition to the quiet embrace of New Fairfield, CT, felt like stepping into a different world. It's been 45 years since that life-changing transition, and adjusting to the quiet and peacefulness of small-town America took us a while.

We've grown to love the beauty of all that Connecticut offers, from our beloved Candlewood Lake in northern Fairfield County to the beautiful beaches on Long Island Sound in southern Connecticut.

On August 19thReader's Digest published an article titled 'The Most Charming Small Towns in Every State,' stating, "You'll find the heart of America in these small-town gems that seem lost in time. Add them to your must-visit list now." Believe it or not, the most charming town is NOT Mystic! Welcome to Woodbury!

If you're considering taking a New England fall foliage tour, the following small towns are rated #1 in each New England state, according to Reader's Digest.

    1. Connecticut - Woodbury
    2. Maine - Camden
    3. Massachusetts - Shelburne Falls
    4. New Hampshire - Meredith
    5. Rhode Island - Warren
    6. Vermont - Manchester
