The Greater Danbury Area Is Loaded With Pumpkin Picking Destinations
Pumpkin picking in the fall is borderline, required by law at this point. I've been told I am going whether I like it or not, I do not like it and I will be going anyway. As with all activities I will complain about it in the days prior and once we are there I'll have fun. Now I just have to decide where to pick my pumpkins and oh boy do I/we have a ton of options.
- Bethel has Blue Jay Orchards at 125 Plumtrees Road where the pumpkin patch is open now with beautiful pumpkins at 69 cents a pound.
- New Milford has Harris Hill Farm at 106 Ridge Road. They will have pumpkin picking all through October and admission is free.
- Newtown has Castle Hill Farm at 25 Sugar Lane. There pumpkin patch opens September 28.
- North Salem, NY has Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard at 130 Hardscrabble Rd. There pumpkin picking season is underway.
I've been to all of these farms and I like them a lot. There's not just pumpkin picking available at these farms, some do apple picking, some do hay rides, some have activities for the kids, it's a whole day out.
So put on the sweater, pack the kids in the Rover, take the obligatory photos, make some memories and support local business. If you don't buy these pumpkins, what the hell are they going to do with them all? We can't have these pumpkins just laying around.
