News came down last month that Stop & Shop would be permanently closing five underperforming stores in Connecticut. Just my luck, one of them is the closest grocery store to my place - High Street in Torrington. How much longer will it remain open? I went shopping today, the end has truly begun.

The pharmacy will permanently close on Tuesday, September 10, and I asked the front-end managers how much longer the store had left. "Halloween, October 31, that's the plan". I don't know if this store will make it until then, frankly I'd be shocked. The fresh seafood department was closed, so was the floral department. Nobody was in the butcher shop, but there was fresh beef, chicken, and pork in the case. The deli and fresh takeout section was light on product, the center aisles vacant. The only section that seemed fully stocked was frozens, and dairy looked good. Bargain hunting? The discounts have started, here's what I found.

The End Has Truly Begun at Torrington's Doomed Stop & Shop

Although the reported closing date is "By Halloween" the long, slow death of the closest grocery store to my place in Torrington has truly begun. I took a walk around to do some bargain hunting, have a look.
