Who Ranked Bethel and Danbury Among the 10 Best Places to Live?
After some intense research, the real estate website, Movoto.com., recently came up with The 10 Best Places to Live in Connecticut.
In addition to Connecticut, Movoto has also researched Kentucky and Arkansas's best places to live using these seven criteria:
- Total amenities
- Quality of life(cost of living, median home price, etc.)
- Total crimes
- Tax rates
- Unemployment numbers
- Commute time
- Weather
According to Movoto's research, here are the 10 best places to live in Connecticut.
- 1
Stamford
The median household income is 89% higher than the rest of the state and the quality of life and safest community scores were also very high, which makes Stamford the #1 best Connecticut city to live.
- 2
Bethel
The reason Bethel came in near the top of the heap is the high number of amenities like restaurants and shops which means Bethel came in hot in the quality of life department. Congrats Bethel!
- 3
Danbury
Danbury has been in the news lately due to its accolades of being one of Connecticut's cities with the lowest unemployment rate along with one of the strongest economies. Danbury's also known for its ability to attract new business, not to mention its diverse communities.
- 4
Middletown
Why is the small city of Middletown ranked #4 of the best places to live? Middletown has a historic downtown, beautiful park, O'Rourke's Diner, which is legendary, and it's one of the least expensive areas to live in CT. and its unemployment rate is only 6.5%.
- 5
Ridgefield
Ridgefield is on the cusp between northern and southern Fairfield County. It's a gorgeous small town with world class restaurants and an excellent quality of life. The 500 seat Ridgefield Playhouse is the perfect venue to experience any show, but, housing in Ridgefield is one of the highest in the state.
- 6
West Hartford
I actually don't understand why West Hartford didn't land in the #1 slot. Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine named it one of the nation's top 10 places to raise a family and CNN Money ranked it the 55th best overall small city in America. West Hartford seems like it's too good to be true not to mention The Center and Blue Back Square are always buzzing with nightlife and restaurant activity.
- 7
Darien
This small Connecticut town of less than 22,000 is one of the wealthiest communities in the nation and has one of highest median incomes in the country. The homes are expensive and the cost of living is double the national average. Darien is rated as one of the safest small towns in the U.S.A. but you gotta have big bucks.
- 8
Groton
Groton is located on the Thames River and is the home of Electric Boat, which is the major contractor for submarine work for the United States Navy and the largest employer in Groton. The Naval Submarine Base is also located in Groton. The town is one of the safest in Connecticut and is also a bit pricey.
- 9
Westport
Westport lies on the Connecticut coast and along with Darien has also been named one of the wealthiest towns in the U.S. The median household income is around $160,000. Housing prices are way above the national average but the schools are some of the best in the country. If you have the bucks, it's an awesome place to live!
- 10
Newtown
Newtown made the best places to live in Connecticut list because of its tight-knit community feel. Although it doesn't have a variety of amenities, it's only about 60 miles out of New York City and is easily reachable from I-84. Newtown is also famous for its many landmarks especially its flagpole that rests in the middle of Rt.25 and Edmond Town Hall which has a popular funky inexpensive movie theatre.
