Tastiest Desserts in the Greater Danbury Area According to Me
In celebration of National Dessert Day, the CTPost.com put together an impressive listing of the most delectable desserts in Connecticut, but honestly I'm not driving to Griswold, Greenwich, Milford, New Caanan, or Stamford for my sugar fix.The following are my choices for the best desserts within a 25 minute drive of the Danbury area. Let me add there is no number one. They are all deliciously enticing in their very own way. Let's do this!
- 1
The Goode Shoppe - New Fairfield
Only a 5 minute drive from my New Fairfield home is a bakery called The Goode Shoppe which has that inviting homey coffeehouse feel. On any given day you're likely to see many of the same New Fairfield locals chatting away while enjoying a cup of fresh coffee. The "New Yorkers" up from the city call it their favorite stop for fresh goodies. For almost 21 years, owner Mark Jayson, a Culinary School graduate whips up homemade "everything" from cookies to pies, cakes to pastries, breads to muffins! My favorites are Mark's "Black & White" cookies and his small "Chocolate Chip Cake." Yes, it is worth the drive from the surrounding Danbury area.

Carole Peck's 'Good News Cafe' - Woodbury
The Good News Cafe is owned by Carole Peck who is also a renowned chef. This is Mindy's and my "special occasion" restaurant. Everything is farm to table and everything on her imaginative menu is scrumptious. One of our all time favorite desserts is the pastry chef's, "Better Than Yankee Doodle Cupcakes" and her unmatched "Creme Brulee."

Dr. Mike's - Bethel
Dr. Mike's ice cream is to die for! This time of year they're scooping out their "Pumpkin Ice Cream!" Trust me, go get some before they run out for the season.
- 4
Stew Leonards - Danbury
Truth be told, I have fantasized many times about ripping open several of Stew's savory delights and eating myself into a sugar coma. If I had to make a choice of just two of their dessert items, because I'm a cookie guy, I'd have to go with their chocolate chip cookies and their seasonal pumpkin cookies.
- 5
Blue Jay Orchards - Bethel
Blue Jay Orchards is legendary in Fairfield county for picking your own apples, and their homemade goodies. Even if you're not into apple picking, make a stop at their bakery for a box or two or three of their "Famous Cider Donuts!" and their fresh "apple pies."
